APPI ParaTrike
APPI Power is the International Paramotor and ParaTrike Association responsible for licensing Pilots, Tandem Pilots and Instructors around the world. All of SkySchool's ParaTrike Courses follow the APPI ParaTrike Training Syllabus, which is designed to allow students to learn in a safe and professional way. Days 1 and 2
Open Sky Course
- Introduction and completion of all paperwork
- Lecture 1: Theory of Flight
- Introduction to the Wing
- Preparation of glider, untangling, folding and care of the wing
- Introduction to ParaTrike, Safety Checks and Pre-Tandem Briefing
- Safe starting procedures with electric and/or pull start ParaTrikes
- Clipping into the ParaTrike and Pre-Take Off checks
- Tandem Flight 1: 30 Minute Orientation flight
- Static running of the ParaTrike on the ground and Figure of 8's, 360's and circuit patterns
- Unpowered Assisted Launch Practise
- Adjustments, Reserve Practice Deployments and Pre Solo Flight Simulation
Days 3 to 6
Adventure Pilot Level Course
- Lecture 2: Basic Meteorology
- Lecture 3: Basic Air Law
- Tandem Flight 2: 30 Minute Dual Control flight
- Powered Launch Practise
- SKILLS CHECK: Capable of controlling ParaTrike on the ground without the canopy
- SKILLS CHECK: Capable of launching the canopy and controlling it with the ParaTrike running
- SKILLS CHECK: Correct Pre Flight Checks, Site Assessment, 'Weather to Fly', Motor and Canopy usage
- SKILLS CHECK: Capable of Landing the ParaTrike while under dual control
- SKILLS CHECK: Minimum of 2 x Tandem flights (if legally possible)
- Lecture 4: Pre Solo Flight Briefing
- Flight 1: A multiple circuit flight of between 20 and 30 minutes in an open, unobstructed area, in smooth conditions and windspeeds less than 10mph, under the supervision and guidance of a qualified APPI ParaTrike Instructor.
Days 7 to 12: Theory
APPI ParaTrike Pilot Level Course
- Further Meteorology Lecture
- Further Air Law Lecture
- Effects of the Motor upon the Wing Lecture
- Navigation and Flight Planning Lecture
- General Paramotoring Information Lecture
- Pilot Level Exam
Certification
SKILLS CHECK: Capable of Launching without assistance from Instructor
SKILLS CHECK: Capable of landing into wind without assistance from Instructor
SKILLS CHECK: Minimum total of 3 hours and 15 flights as a Solo ParaTrike Pilot
APPI ParaTrike students must satisfactorily complete all course performance requirements to qualify as APPI ParaTrike Pilots, using the APPI ParaTrike Pilot Level Training Syllabus and Logbook to document their progression. To apply for certification, the certifying APPI ParaTrike Instructor must submit online a completed, validated APPI ParaTrike Pilot Application on the APPI ParaTrike website, along with the required photo and application fee. Upon approval of the application and validation, APPI ParaTrike will issue an APPI ParaTrike Pilot Certification Card.
